School Improvement Council (SIC)

Minutes

• Mr. Sanders, grandparent of ROMS student, reflected on SIC progress over last year 24-25: small presence, lack of growth, desire for more parent involvement.
• Mr. Wynne proposed SIC presence at Title I events with a goal for one member present at each event.
• Mr. Sanders asked about the possibility of SIC presence at ROMS athletic events (football and volleyball).
• Mr. Wynne held a vote electing Mr. Sanders as Parent Member and Mrs. Link as Teacher Member; goal to gain minimum of 3 parents for the board.
• Mr. Wynne and Mrs. Link discussed the creation and distribution of information pamphlets; will be discussed with Principal Tracy.
• Mr. Wynne set the next meeting date as October 20, 2025 at 3:30 pm

• Group discussed roles and responsibilities of SIC compared to PTSA

• Group passed out renewal packets at Title 1 events to boost membership

  • To be discussed, posting on ParentSquare to boost membership

• Mr. Wynne will reach out to SIC leaders at other schools in DD2 for information on route and guidance for overhaul of SIC

• Team will look at high functioning SIC groups in DD2 to identify ways for ROMS SIC to improve.

• Goal for next meeting is to have clearly defined role and parameters established to help grow SIC team size.

Mr. Wynne discussed SIC with principals from other DD2 schools for insight prior to November meeting

• Discussion with Passmore about PD with parent members included

Planning to go over teacher surveys and parent surveys and finding areas of improvement

What are areas that admin can improve, realistic and practical

Parent surveys noted that

• Areas of concern/improvement
  • Student bullying in the school: 45% mostly agree
  • Parent involvement in school events: 65% of parents mostly agree
  • Parent involvement in school committees: 9% agree, 70% mostly agree
  • Parent volunteering in schools: 14% agree
• Areas of praise:
  • 79% of parents mostly agree that teachers give students assignments to help students learn
  • 75% of parents stated their student feels safe
  • 64% of parents are satisfied with home/school relations
  • Team plans to pull survey data from previous years

Student Survey

• 75% of students said classes are challenging
• 91% of students said their teachers expected students to behave
• 56% of students said classrooms are clean
• 35% of students said bathrooms are clean
• 68% of students said broken things are fixed here, expected to grow
• 35% of students said students behave in class, 30% behavior in lunch
• 77% of students feel safe at school after hours, 75% during school hours

Team believes that there needs to be a focus on bridging the gap between student and parent perceptions of school

Updating information on renewal plan, need updated before the end of the year, likely due halfway through the second semester

• Principal names, counselor names, accomplishments, updating SC Ready and SC Pass data, enrollment data

Discussion of improvement in school culture

Inclusion of ML to Academic support focus

Ms. Link asked how communication is to be sent out for parent recruitment

Ms. Link can schedule and post announcements in ParentSquare for SIC meetings

Ms. Link will draft a message to be sent out

Next meeting will be held on December 17th

• Mr. Wynne and Mr. Morgan met in person and joined the zoom call
• All volunteers previously in the building have been reached out to
  • Increase of 30+ volunteers
  • This month ROMS is currently at 41 hours
• Met with student council leader to discuss implementing student survey
  • Student Council will create some questions with the assistance of Mr. Wynne
• Following up on Schoology/ParentSquare for posting flyers about SIC
  • Ms. Link is creating a flyer
• Met with Ms. Passmore about SIC report
  • Updating, will change in format
• Parents expressed not understanding MAP data and scores
• Team set agenda for next meeting
